Dr Tamara Skocylak

Dr Tamara Skocylak

Dr. Tamara Skocylak was born in Toronto, Canada and first began riding during the summer holidays at her parents’ cottage. Her love for horses grew each year and eventually led to her riding and showing year round. She initially competed in eventing and then her focus changed primarily to show jumping. She has shown successfully up to the mid-amateur level on the ‘A’ circuit in both central Ontario and Ocala, Florida.

Dr. Skocylak’s first introduction to the veterinary field came when she graduated as a Veterinary Technician from Seneca College in King City, Ontario and worked in a small animal hospital for several years. With a strong desire to continue her veterinary education, she was accepted into the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh, Scotland, where she completed her Bachelor in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery from 2011-2016.

Following her studies abroad, Dr. Skocylak returned home to Canada, where she completed a one year rotating internship at Moore Equine in Calgary, Alberta, the largest equine hospital in western Canada. During her time at Moore, she honed her skills in equine medicine, surgery and anaesthesia. She also developed a keen passion for racehorses, with her primary interests being upper airway abnormalities, cardiology, lameness and dentistry.

During her spare time Dr. Skocylak enjoys swimming, traveling and exploring new walking trails with her 12 year old Labrador/Shepherd, Tobi. Dr. Skocylak joined Allen Equine in March 2018 and is looking forward to working with our wonderful Thoroughbred and sport horse clients in the coming years.
